SHRIPARVATA SHAKTI PEETH, LADAKH

Shriparvata Shakti Peeth is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas where the right anklet of Goddess Sati has fallen. Here the idols are – Devi as Shree Sundari (beautiful) and Lord Shiva as as Sundaranand (the handsome one). The place is situated at Laddakh of Kashmir Valley. Another conviction is – at Shriparvat under Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The overall art and architecture of the temple is great. On the side premises there are sculptures various gods and goddesses. In the main sanctorum, lies the idol of Maa Sati. It is always covered with red cloth and idol is made of black stone. Around the idol is the gold dome that covers the idol 2/3 part from above.

History and Significance:

Moreover, a divine power of the Universe “Goddess Shri Sundari” is one of the historic places in India, where Devi Shakti Maa Durga is worshipped as “Shri Sundari” by devotees.

According to the Hindu mythology, an ancient pilgrimage site is also known as Shri Parvat shakti peetha, where the “Right anklet” of Sati’s body fell. The main idols of this legendary divine place are Devi as “Shri Sundari” (pretty) and Lord Shiva as “Sundaranand” (handsome), worshipped here.

Temple Festivals:

Maha Shivaratri (February- March) is the major festival of this place and celebrated with great devotion, fun and dedication. People keep fast during these days as this day is considered highly auspicious. On the other hand, Navratri is also a major festival and celebrated for Nine days as 9 forms of goddesses Durga is celebrated. A special fair is held during Deepavali.

How to reach:

Kurnool connectivity to rest of the country is pretty good and But train to this destination are not directly available. There are couple of buses that ply from major cities of India towards this sacred site, on interval basis. Personal vehicles are also used by people to reach here.  There is port connectivity too, so people coming from states that have ship ports will find it pleasant journey. Railway is the most common mode transportation to reach Kurnool. Dedicated airport is there in Chennai (Capital of Tamil Nadu), and provision of both national and international flight is there in this airport.
