SUCHINDRAM SHAKTI PEETH – MAA NARAYANI

Suchindram is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and is placed in the southernmost district of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, India. This place is where it is believed that the Upper Teeth of Maa Sati fell. The idols are Devi Maa as “Maa Narayani” (wife of Narayan) and Lord Shiva as “Sangharor Samhara” (the destroyer). Sometimes the goddess is popularly known as Kanya Kumari or Bhagavathy Amman. Samhara Bhairava is present in a nearby village. At Suchindram, he is locally called Sthanu Shiva. Suchindram has a temple dedicated to Sri Sthanumalayan as well who is the representation of the combined forces of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. It is one of the few temples in the country where the Trinities are worshiped. The temple has a beautiful Gopuram, musical pillars. The art and architecture of this temple is unique and blends with the Tamil Nadu culture. From outside the whole temple looks white, as it is made of white stone. On the other hand, the top part is made of various sculptures that depict the various gods and the fine stone work done on it is highly commendable. There are palm trees planted in front of the Suchindram temple. So much so is the religious importance of this place that every year people in million numbers flock to this part of the country.
Temple History
History to this place dates back in the time when it is said that the Upper teeth of Maa Sati fell on this place. In order to embark the spiritual importance to this place of fall, a temple was constructed. Over the years there are several renovation being carried out on it.
